Privacy & Cookies Policy

Last updated: September 2026

At By Laura Georgewill, your privacy matters. This policy explains what personal information I collect when you visit this website, make an enquiry or work with me, how that information is used, and the choices and rights you have.

For the purposes of UK data protection law, By Laura Georgewill is responsible for the personal information described in this policy.

Information I may collect

Depending on how you interact with me, I may collect information including:

  • your name;

  • email address and telephone number;

  • business or brand name;

  • website address;

  • information you submit through enquiry or contact forms;

  • information you provide during calls, emails or project communications;

  • project requirements, content and other materials you provide while we work together;

  • billing, payment and transaction information; and

  • technical information about how you interact with this website, such as device, browser and website usage information where applicable.

Please don’t send sensitive personal information through my website unless it is genuinely necessary for your enquiry or project.

How I use your information

I may use your information to:

  • respond to enquiries;

  • discuss and prepare proposals for potential projects;

  • provide website design and related services;

  • communicate with you during a project;

  • manage invoices, payments and business records;

  • provide ongoing support where requested;

  • operate, maintain and improve this website;

  • understand how visitors use the website, where analytics have been permitted;

  • protect my website and business from misuse or security threats; and

  • comply with legal, tax and accounting obligations.

My lawful bases for using your information

UK data protection law requires me to have a lawful reason for processing personal information.

Depending on the circumstances, I may rely on:

Contract - where using your information is necessary to take steps at your request before entering into a contract or to provide services you’ve purchased.

Legitimate interests - where it is reasonably necessary to operate and improve my business, respond appropriately to enquiries, maintain business relationships, protect my website or keep appropriate business records, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights.

Legal obligation - where I need to retain or use information to meet a legal, accounting or tax requirement.

Consent - where you have actively chosen to allow a particular use of your information, such as certain non-essential cookies. You can withdraw consent where applicable.

The ICO confirms that organisations need an appropriate lawful basis and must explain the bases they rely upon in their privacy information.

Who your information may be shared with

I don’t sell your personal information.

I may use trusted third-party providers where necessary to run my website and business. These may include website hosting and website-management providers, email and communication services, payment processors, accounting services, analytics services and other software required to deliver a project.

This website is currently built and hosted using Squarespace.

Where your project involves another platform or provider - for example Squarespace, Shopify, a domain provider or another service chosen for your website - relevant information may also be processed by that provider.

Some providers may process information outside the UK. Where this happens, I will rely on the safeguards required under applicable data-protection law.

Before publishing: once we’ve established every service you’re actually using, I’d make this section more specific rather than listing companies you don’t use.

How long I keep information

I keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the reason it was collected, including to meet legal, accounting and tax requirements and to deal with any potential disputes.

Enquiry information that does not result in a project will not be kept indefinitely.

Client and financial records may need to be retained for longer where required for legitimate business, tax or legal purposes.

When information is no longer required, it will be deleted or securely disposed of where reasonably practicable.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law may give you rights including the right to:

  • ask for access to the personal information I hold about you;

  • ask for inaccurate information to be corrected;

  • ask for information to be deleted in certain circumstances;

  • ask me to restrict how information is used;

  • object to certain processing;

  • receive certain information in a portable format; and

  • withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

To exercise a right, contact me at hello@bylaurageorgewill.co.uk

You also have the right to raise a concern with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator.

Information Commissioner's Office

The ICO lists these rights and the right to complain to a supervisory authority among the information organisations should provide to individuals.

Cookies

This website uses cookies and similar technologies.

Cookies are small pieces of information stored on your device when you visit a website. Some are necessary for a website to function properly, while others can be used for things such as analytics and understanding website usage.

Essential cookies

Some cookies are necessary for the website to function correctly, securely or to remember choices you’ve made. These may operate without consent where they are strictly necessary.

Analytics and other non-essential cookies

Where I use analytics or other non-essential technologies, these help me understand things such as how visitors use the website and which pages are useful.

Non-essential cookies will only be used where the appropriate consent has been obtained.

You can accept, reject or manage non-essential cookies through the cookie controls provided on this website.

You can also change your browser settings to delete or block cookies, although doing so may affect certain website functions.

The ICO states that visitors must be given clear information about cookies and that non-essential cookies generally require active consent; they should not simply be placed before the visitor has made their choice.

Changing your cookie preferences

You can revisit your cookie preferences through [COOKIE SETTINGS — we’ll link this to the Squarespace cookie controls].

The ICO’s current guidance says refusing non-essential technologies should be as easy as accepting them and visitors should be able to revisit their preferences.

Changes to this policy

I may update this Privacy & Cookies Policy occasionally to reflect changes to the website, my services or legal requirements.

The latest version will always be published on this page with the date it was last updated.
